why your service matters

At ICC, we don't just volunteer, but we partner. This isn't just a change in vocabulary; it’s a change in how we see you. Most organisations use volunteers to get a job done. We invite partners to help us build a home. At ICC, we never want to "use" you to complete a project; we want to care for you so that you can serve out of an overflow of health and joy. This is why we prioritize your spiritual health over your "to-do" list.

Our Pathway to Ministry

To ensure you are supported and known before serving, we ask that you:

Attend ICC for at least 3 months (so you can find your feet).

Be a part of a 3G (so you have a small group caring for you). Find a Group.

Complete the Ministry Training (so you are equipped for the mission).

ICC Melbourne is a safe space for your children and youths. If your ministry will require you to interact with minors, you will need to hold a valid Working With Children Card and go through the SafeChurch Training. Find our safety commitment at safechurchpcv.org.au

We believe that every person in the church is a "contributor," not just a consumer. In this session, we explore the idea that there is no "B-team" in the kingdom of God. Whether you are gifted in hospitality, administration, music, or teaching, your contribution is vital to the health of the whole church. We move away from the "professional" model of ministry and look at how God uses your unique personality and skills to care for others.

Working with people is messy. In a culture that either "cancels" others or pretends everything is fine, we view conflict as a unique opportunity for growth. We learn how to handle disagreements through the lens of the gospel – speaking truth with kindness and resolving tension in a way that makes our teams stronger, not weaker.

ministry teams at icc

COmmunity

If you are called to serve by creating a space where people feel seen and welcomed, the Community Team is your home. This team focuses on the essential ministry of hospitality, from the first smile at the door to the final conversation over a drink. You can partner with us as a Welcome Usher to greet guests, Integration Specialist to help newcomers find their way into the life of the church, or as part of our Coffee Team to facilitate the warm, relational environment that defines our Sunday gatherings.

branding & media

For those with a heart for communication and digital storytelling, the Branding and Media Team ensures our message reaches the city with clarity and excellence. This team manages our digital presence through Sermon Reels Editing and Links Management, while also providing Graphic Design support for our series and events. By serving here, you help bridge the gap between our Sunday gathering and the daily lives of those in Melbourne, making the Gospel accessible in the digital spaces where people live.

SUNDAY RESOURCES

Our Sunday resources are supported by the Audio and Visual (A&V) Team, which serves as the technical backbone of our worship experience. This team ensures that the message is heard and seen without distraction by acting as a Slides Operator or managing the Sound board. By serving in A&V, you play a crucial role in removing barriers and ensuring that the Word of God is communicated clearly to everyone in the room.

WORSHIP

The Worship Team is responsible for leading the congregation in musical liturgy and praise. We look for partners who are not only musically skilled but also have a heart for helping others respond to God's grace. You can participate in this team as a Vocalist or by playing Instruments, working together to create a centered and reflective atmosphere for our Sunday gatherings.

CHILDREN & YOUTH

Investing in the next generation is a vital part of our mission to see families flourish in the Gospel. This team works to provide a safe, engaging, and biblically-grounded environment for our younger members. You can serve as a Teacher or Assistant in our age-specific classes, provide care in the Creche, or join the dedicated Children/Youth Music Team to lead our kids in praise.

PASTORAL CARE

If you have a heart for walking alongside others through the complexities of life and ensuring no one falls through the cracks, this team is your calling. Pastoral Care at ICC is more than just a reactive service; it is a proactive commitment to the "Care Over Contribution" philosophy we hold dear. This team serves as a bridge between the initial welcome on a Sunday and the deep discipleship found in our 3G groups.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to wait three months before joining a team?

We want you to have the time to transition from a guest to a member of the family before you become a "worker." This three-month period protects you from jumping into a task before you have found a spiritual home and started building genuine friendships. It ensures you understand our DNA and feel rooted in the community before you begin giving your energy to the church's projects.

Why is being in a 3G (Gospel Growth Group) mandatory for serving?

Your 3G group is where you receive your primary pastoral care. We have a firm "Care Over Contribution" promise, which means we won't let you serve if you aren't being supported. We want to make sure that while you are caring for the church through your ministry team, a small group of people is caring for you, praying for you, and walking with you through life.

What if I don't have "religious" skills or formal training?

Most of the work that makes a church flourish isn't "religious" in a traditional sense. We need hospitality, organizational skills, technical ability, and a heart for people. Whether you are a Slides Operator, a Sermon Reels Editor, or a Coffee Host, your everyday skills are spiritual gifts when used for the body of Christ. The first module of our Ministry Training is specifically designed to help you identify how your unique personality and skills fit into our church family.

Is the "Conflict as a Means of Grace" module really necessary?

Yes, because working with people is messy. Most "volunteer burnout" in churches is actually caused by unresolved tension or hurt feelings. By learning how to handle disagreement through the lens of the Gospel early on, we protect the unity of our church and your own emotional health. This training equips you to speak truth with kindness and resolve tension in a way that actually makes your team stronger.

How much of a time commitment is expected?

To protect your Sabbath, we don't want you serving every single Sunday. We believe in a rhythm where you are fed by the Word as much as you are feeding others. Each team has different rotations, but our goal is to ensure that your partnership at ICC enhances your life rather than draining it, allowing you to remain a faithful friend and leader in your workplace and home.
